Day 31 - 100 days, 100 courses (Saturday, April 13, 2019)

Two sets of brothers, best friends growing up playing golf at a really nice course. How could you design a better Saturday? Well, maybe a little less wind. We had a great time catching up, telling stories and having a great time.

I’ve known Tim since 1st grade going to school together all the way through high school. Virtually inseparable at school, church and even working together at Krauzers, the Farm House and another restaurant that I can’t remember the name of. Our families were extensions of each other.

I think the thing that bonded Don and Pete was the mutual desire to pick on their younger brothers.

The course was in good condition except for the greens. It is way too difficult for a 20 handicapper. To much water, sand and every hole was a 200 yard forced carry even from the front tees.

Teravista sits on arguably the highest stretch of land in the Austin area, so the word "windswept" comes to mind. The course's playability--lengthwise AND layout-wise--goes up in calm conditions, and you'll feel like you're playing one of the best courses in the region [spoiler alert: you are]. Even so, you will need to be particularly sharp on three things here--1) Wind play, and knowing your club distances. In calmish conditions, you'll rarely have to go up more than a club or two. Oddly enough, I don't recall ever going down a club or two. 2) Know your pin placements. Again, this is distance related, which is helped greatly by GPS in the cart--count on it giving you a pretty good number. You may find yourself with some approach distances where the smart play is to bail short rather than challenge a guarded pin. Getting pin high, or past, can be a roll of the dice if you're off the green, which leads to: 3) Watch the rough. It's frustrating to lose a ball less than 10 feet off the fairway or just off the green when you KNOW where your ball was going, but it's that kind of rough. Again, this course is no walk in the park, nor is it a bargain hunter's paradise--even with some of the discounts you're likely to find. They also apparently have a heavy watering schedule; some surprisingly soggy lies [I know, first world problems]. All in all, an enjoyable challenge.

Visiting from Ohio, so can't compare to other local courses. Bunkers have real sand and fairways were very playable even in March. Greens were true and smooth w.o being too fast or slow. Played in just under 4 hours. More expensive than most Ohio public courses but layout and condition of course justified the cost.

I rated this course 3 years ago and was pretty critical. Particularly about the removal of GPS and the greens. They have a new greens superintendant and they now clearly have some of the best greens in this entire area! Course is consistently in great shape, even without GPS.

Aggressive greeters did not start the day right. After telling one that I would walk 200 feet another grabber my clubs and left. They need to listen to the customer. Since they do not have GPS anymore, you would think the course layout would be available without having to pay for it. For a course with such a high fee, you would think the last two greens would not be in such bad shape. These two greens were dead. Would have been better off with temp greens. It will take something special for me to go back. Too many other better courses in area.

They just removed their GPS system and have not reduced their prices. Several of the greens are in horrible condition! There was no discount offered for the aeration and oversanding of the greens. In the very recent past I would have highly recommended this course but removal of the GPS, no discount for aeration and the terrible condition of several greens now make this course no better than average for the areas daily fee courses.

The staff was tremendous. Very friendly. Made it a great experience. This course gets a reputation that it is too overpriced. I don't think so.

It was a great value, but was also in dead of winter. I'd like to see what the green fees are in a couple of months. Also would like to try it in less windy conditions, but that may be a crapshoot; wind is pretty much always going to be at least a little bit of a factor there.
